IGAD Countries' Ambassadors to the US Launch a joint working Forum!
/ By: Tsehaye Debalkew, Washington DC, February 22, 2012/

Heads of Missions of the IGAD member states in Washington D.C have formed a joint consultative forum at an extra-ordinary session they held at the Chancery of the Ethiopian Embassy in the US capital to-day February 22, 2012.

The Ambassadors of Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda and the chargé d'affaires of Djibouti met and thoroughly discussed the urgency and necessity of forming the IGAD Heads of Missions Group. The proposed agenda items put forward by Ethiopia were tabled by Ambassador Girma Birru of Ethiopia, who was later unanimously elected to chair the meeting.

In its deliberation the consultative group agreed that the chairmanship should be held on rotation basis annually and Ethiopia was given the Chairmanship to head the Forum for the next twelve months.

The Ambassadors' Group dealt at length on the need to co-ordinate multi-lateral moves in synch with the resolutions adopted by the parent organization, IGAD and declared by underscoring the task of promoting the stand taken by IGAD at various fora.

As concerns the venue and frequency of future meetings, the Consultative forum determined that regular meetings should be summoned every three months on rotation basis at the designated venue.

The maiden meeting was adjourned after a robust discussion and identification of topics and venue for the next meeting by deciding that the group shall meet at the Embassy of Djibouti on May 22, 2012.
