Embassy of Ethiopia to Host Landmark Black History Celebration Honoring the Rev. Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III

Washington, D.C. (February 20, 2008)--In celebration of Black History Month, the Embassy of Ethiopia will host a reception and dinner on Feb. 25 at 7:00 p.m. paying tribute to the strong relationships between Ethiopia, the United States and the African American community.

The guest of honor and featured speaker at this inaugural event will be the Rev. Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III of the historic Abyssinian Baptist Church, which this year celebrates its 200th anniversary.

The event signals a major effort--the first of its kind by an African Embassy in Washington--to reach out to the African American community.

The event will be attended by Members of the House of Representatives including the Congressional Black Caucus, a number of senators, key Africa-related policymakers in Washington, African American community leaders and ambassadors from other nations.

The event will be held at the Embassy of Ethiopia at 3506 International Drive, N.W. Washington, D.C. 20008.
