Notice to Visa Applicants
The Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in Washington, D.C. advises all visa applicants to carefully review the following procedures and requirements:
1. Online Visa Application – Mandatory
All applicants are required to complete the online visa application form prior to visiting the Embassy. The form is available on the official website of the Embassy.
- When completing the form, please ensure:
- The uploaded passport photo and scanned passport are each below 2.5 MB in size.
- Incomplete or improperly formatted applications will cause processing delays.
2. In-Person Submission Requirements
After submitting the online application, applicants must appear in person at the Embassy to:
- Submit the original passport
- Provide one recent passport-sized photograph
- Pay the visa fee by Money Order only (cash and personal checks will not be accepted)
3. Visa Collection Procedure
- Once the visa is processed and approved, the applicant will be notified and given an appointment to collect the passport.
- Walk-in pickups are not permitted.
4. Visa Categories and Eligibility
A. For Ordinary U.S. Passport Holders (passport valid for at least 6 months):
- One-month single-entry tourist visa – $60
- Three-month multiple-entry tourist visa – $150
B. For U.S. Diplomats and Official Staff:
- Diplomatic and service visas are issued upon formal request from the U.S. Department of State via Note Verbale.
C. For World Bank Group and IMF Employees:
- Employees of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) may receive diplomatic visas upon official request from their respective institutions.
D. For Foreign Diplomats Accredited in the U.S.:
- Diplomatic residents in Washington, D.C., and staff of other foreign consulates across the U.S. may be issued diplomatic visas upon official request from their embassies or missions through a formal Note Verbale addressed to the Ethiopian Embassy.
E. For Non-U.S. Citizens Residing in the United States:
- Applicants must hold a valid U.S. Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) in order to apply for a visa.
