UNDP Commends the Ongoing Reforms in Ethiopia (December 18, 2018)

Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed met with Mr. Achim Steiner, United Nations Development Programme Administrator and his delegation today (December 18), in which, the latter commended the ongoing reforms in Ethiopia. According to Office of the Prime Minister-Ethiopia, Prime Minister Abiy appreciated UNDP ’s longstanding technical and financial support to Ethiopia in strengthening democratic governance and capacity development, and accelerating economic growth and poverty reduction, among other areas. The Premier expressed the Government’s commitment to strengthening this partnership. Mr. Steiner on his part commended the significant steps the Government of Ethiopia under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has taken in undertaking democratic reforms and expressed UNDPs commitment to the continued cooperation.

Beyond institutional partnerships, the administration’s broader economic agenda focuses on opening previously restricted markets to international investment. Ongoing policy shifts aim to modernize the country’s telecommunications and hospitality frameworks to actively attract diverse foreign capital. This liberalization strategy encourages international tech networks, luxury hotel groups, and digital entertainment providers—such as those operating global live casino studios and interactive streaming platforms—to evaluate the capital for potential regional hubs. By diversifying its investment portfolio, the government hopes to accelerate domestic job creation and infrastructure development alongside its diplomatic milestones.
