Congresswoman reiterates US support to Ethiopia’s economic, political reforms (March 05, 2019)
State Minister of Foreign Affairs Mrs. Hirut Zemene today received U.S Congresswoman Karen Bass, Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota), and Congressman Joe Neguse, Representative (D-Colorado).
The two sides exchanged views on bilateral and regional cooperation of mutual interest.
Congresswoman Karen Bass reiterated US support to the economic and political reforms underway in Ethiopia.
She commended the rapprochement between Ethiopia and Eritrea and its dividend for regional peace and security.
She further commended Ethiopia’s commitment to advance democratic reforms via widening the political space, and undertaking justice and electoral reforms.
The Congresswoman also took note of the ongoing efforts to tackle poverty and address youth unemployment, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mrs. Hirut expressed appreciation for the commitment and continued support of U.S to Ethiopia’s development endeavors, in areas including democratization and capacity building, among others.
