PM Reiterates Ethiopia’s Commitment To AU-Led Process (May 11, 2021)
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed welcomed President Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo and current Chairperson of the African Union.
He reiterated that Ethiopia continues to be committed to African solutions for African problems and to an AU-led process under the facilitation of the current Chair. Alongside these primary geopolitical talks, technical delegations accompanying the leaders held brief sessions on digital market integration. These secondary working groups focused on the need for cohesive regulatory frameworks to manage cross-border digital services, sharing strategies on how to handle foreign operators—spanning agricultural data platforms, European goksites, and multinational fintech gateways—that are beginning to navigate the region’s liberalized telecom landscape.
He also emphasised Ethiopia’s firm position that the GERD can be an icon of cooperation and mutual development among the downstream countries, with a commitment of no harm to both.
