A group of diplomats from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia are gathered in the Sululta-based African Leadership Excellence Academy for a three-week training that aims to define the directions, dimensions, and domains of Ethiopian diplomacy.
The training officially kicked off today in the presence of the State Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ambassador Birtukan Ayano, and the Chief and Deputy Chief of the Leadership Academy, Dr. Meheret Debebe and Mrs. Hiwot Alemayehu respectively, along with some 65 diplomats.
In delivering a keynote speech, Ambassador Birtukan Ayano said the training was designed to update the knowledge and skills of diplomats in line with the new global-level realities in the economic, social, geopolitical, and digital arenas.
It’s the first round of training provided to diplomats in the 2015 E.C. fiscal year Ambassador Birtukan said adding that the sessions are planned to engage diplomats in new ways of thinking that fit the requirements of the day.
According to Ambassador Birtukan, Ethiopians expect to witness a new day in Ethiopia’s diplomacy, reiterating the importance of reflection on the highs and lows of Ethiopian diplomacy that Ethiopia has passed through since the beginning of the reforms that the government has been undertaking for the last four years.
The Chiefs of the Leadership Academy also gave a birds-eye view of the training session, covering some of the contents and accompanying procedures of the upcoming sessions.
The morning session of the first day of the training was covered by Dr. Meheret Debebe, who spoke in detail about various dimensions of thinking under the banner of “The Thinking Diplomat.”

The International Community based in Addis Ababa was briefed today (November 5) about the agreement signed between the Government of Ethiopia and the TPLF in South Africa.
The briefing was held to give further clarification and updates regarding the process during the agreement, the contents of the agreement, the next steps in the implementation of the deal, expectations from friends and partners, as well as an expression of gratitude for all who contributed to the realization of the agreement.
Ambassador Redwan Hussien, National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister, Dr. Gedion Timotiwos, Minister of Justice, delivered the briefing and addressed the questions raised by participants.
Ambassador Redwan Hussien updated the international community on the steps being taken for implementation of the agreement, which include an exchange of phone calls and an expected in-person meeting between the commander of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces and the military leader of the TPLF in relation to disarmament.
Attendees, ambassadors, and heads of international organizations, based in Addis Ababa applauded the agreement between the Federal Government of Ethiopia and the TPLF to bring about peace and stability in the northern part of Ethiopia and expressed firm support for its implementation.
Participants also expressed support for the efforts underway regarding the reconstruction of infrastructure and basic services and stated their further commitment and solidarity regarding efforts to rebuild conflict affected areas.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia, Mr. Demeke Mekonnen, held a discussion with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye, H.E. Mr. Mevlut Cavusoglu, on the bilateral issues between the two countries in Abu Dhabi.
Mr. Demeke, who is participating in the Sir Bani Yas Forum organized by the United Arab Emirates, explained the current developments in Ethiopia in his discussion with the Turkish Foreign Minister.
He mentioned the peace agreement that was signed between the Ethiopian government and the TPLF in Pretoria last week.
He explained that the government is carrying out many activities to ensure lasting peace.
Mr. Demeke also underscored the activities that are being taken to further strengthen the longstanding friendly relationship between the two nations.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye, Mevlut Cavusoglu, expressed the happiness of the Turkish government that the peace agreement was signed to resolve the conflict in northern Ethiopia through dialogue.
The Minister, emphasizing that the peace of Ethiopia has made a great contribution to the stability of the region, indicated that Turkiye will provide all-round support in the effort to ensure peace in Ethiopia by implementing the peace agreement.
He also assured that the work being done to increase Turkey’s bilateral relations with Ethiopia in all fields will continue.


The agreement signed today in South Africa is monumental in moving Ethiopia forward on the path of the reforms we embarked upon four and half years ago. Our commitment to peace remains steadfast. And our commitment to collaborating for the implementation of the agreement is equally strong.
On behalf of the people and Government of Ethiopia, I would like to express my gratitude to the African Union Commission and the AU High Representative for the Horn of Africa His Excellency former President Olusegun Obasanjo, together with esteemed members of the high representative’s team; His Excellency former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Her Excellency Dr. Phumuzile Mlalmbo, former Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa. I would also like to thank His Excellency Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission for spearheading the AU’s principled position of ‘African Solutions to African Problems.
To my dear brother His Excellency Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa, Ethiopia is grateful to you and the sisterly nation of South Africa for hosting these talks to their successful conclusion.
I would like to express appreciation to friends of Ethiopia that have taken an active role in supporting the conclusion of this agreement. We count on your continued support in reconstructing conflict affected areas in the Northern part of the country and an enhanced partnership with Ethiopia in our countrywide development endeavors.
Last but not least, to the brave members of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces and the courageous people of this nation that stood a testing period, I humbly share deepest gratitude.

በመድረኩ የቀድሞው የኢትዮጵያ ፕሬዚዳንት ክቡር ዶ/ር ሙላቱ ተሾመ የአፍሪካ ህብረት 2063 ፍኖተ ካርታ ለወጣቶች ትኩረት ይሰጣል፥ ፓን አፍሪካኒዝም እሳቤ እና አስተሳሰብ እንዲያድግ እና በአህጉሩ እንዲጠናከር በርካታ ስራዎች መስራት እንደሚገባ ገልፀዋል።
ቀጠናዊ የኢኮኖሚ ውህደት እንዲኖር በዓለምአቀፍ ደረጃ ጥረቶች መደረግ እንዳለባቸው የገለፁት ክቡር ዶ/ር ሙላቱ የእረጅም ጊዜ ግጭትን በማስወገድ የመሰረተ ልማት ትስስርን ማጠናከር በልማት መስኮች እድሎች መፍጠር እንደሚገባም አስገንዝበዋል። የወጣቶችን አቅም መጠቀም እና የአመራር ሚናቸውን ማጎልበት ይገባል ብለዋል ።
የጋና የቀድሞው ፕሬዝዳንት ክቡር ድራማኒ ማሀማ አፍሪካ በቅኝ ግዛት ዘመን ያሳለፈችው ፈታኝ ጊዜ በማለፍ አሁን ባሉ ተስፋ እና እድሎች መጠቀም ያስፈልጋል ብለዋል ።
የአፍሪካ ባህላዊ እሴቶችን በማዳበር የራሳችን ሞራል እና ማንነት መጠበቅ ይገባል ፤ዛሬ በተለያዩ መገናኛ ዘዴዎች የሚሰራጩ ሀሳቦች አፍሪካዊ ማንነታችን እያሳጡን በመሆኑ፤ የዚህ ዘመን ወጣቶች ይንን በመከላከል እና በመጠበቅ ወጣቶች ኃላፊነታችሁን መወጣት ይገባችኋል ነው ያሉት።
አፍሪካውያን በሰላም ግንበታ ፣ የምግብ ዋስትና ማረጋገጥ እና የተፈጥሮ ሀብትን በበቂ መጠን መጠቀም የነገ ትውልድ መሪዎች አቅም መገንባት ያስፈልጋል ተብሏል ።

በእለቱም የዲያስፖራ አባላቱ አዲስ አበባ ከተማ በብራዚል ሪዮ ዲጄኔሮ የ2022 ሚላን ፓክት አዋርድ እና በአርጀንቲና ቦነስ አይረስ በተካሄደዉ የC40 የአለም ከተሞች ስላሸነፈችው ሽልማት የተሰማቸዉን ኩራትና ደስታ ገልፀዋል።
ከንቲባ አዳነች እስካሁን የተገኙ ድሎችም ሆነ ፈተናዎችን ለመሻገር በሚደረገዉ እንቅስቃሴ ዉስጥ የኢትዮጵያ ዳያስፖራ ሚና ወደር የለሽ እንደሆነም አንስተዋል።
አሁንም አዲስ አበባን ከዲፕሎማቲክ ማእከልነቷ ባሻገር ለነዋሪዎቿ ምቹ የሆነችና እንደ ስሟ አበባ ለማድረግ በሚያደርገው ጥረት: በኢንቨስትመንት፤ በመኖርያ ቤት ግንባታ: በንግድ ፤ በሳይንስና ቴክኖሎጂ፤ በእውቀት ሽግግር ፤ የከተማዋን የጤና ቱሪዝም ማእከልነት እቅድ በማሳካት ፤ ተሳትፎ እንዲያደርጉ በከንቲባ አዳነች አቤቤ ጥሪ ቀርቦላቸዋል፡፡
የዲያስፖራ አባላቱም በሀገራቸው እየተካሄደ ባለው አጠቃላይ እንቅስቃሴና እየመጣ ባለው ለውጥ ደስተኛ መሆናቸውን ገልፀው የከንቲባዋን ጥሪ መቀበላቸውና በሃገር ጉዳይ በንቃት መሳተፍ እንደሚፈልጉ አሳውቀዋል። ሆኖም ወደ ሀገር ሲመጡ የሚያጋጥማቸውን የቢሮክራሲ ችግሮች መንግስት እንዲቀረፍላቸው ጠይቀዋል፡፡
ከንቲባ አዳነችም ይህንን ችግር ለመፍታት ዋነኛው መፍትሄ ስርዓት (system) መገንባት እና ማጠናከር እንዳለበት ገልፀው ይህንን ማድረግ የመንግስት የትኩረት አቅጣጫ መሆኑን አንስተዋል፡፡
በዚህ ዙርያም ዲያስፖራው በተለይ በቴክኖሎጂ አገልግሎትን ለማዘመን የሚደረገውን ጥረት እንዲደግፍ አሳስበዋል።
በዋሽንግተን የኢፌዴሪ ኤምባሲ ምክትል ሚሲየን መሪ አምባሳደር ዘላለም ብርሃን በበኩላቸው በዳያስፖራው በኩል የቀረቡ ጥያቄዎችና የኢንቨስትመነት ፍላጎቶች እንዲስተናገዱ እንደ ድልድይ በመሆን የጀመረውን ጥረት እንደሚያጠናክር አስተዋውቀዋል።
አዲስ አበባ ለስሟ የሚመጥን የከተማ መሰረተ ልማቶች እንዲሟሉላት ዳያስፖራው በእውቀቱና በገንዘቡ የበኩሉን አስተዋጽኦ እንዲያደርግም ጥሪ አቅርበዋል።

The African Youth Summit officially begins in Addis Ababa today (October 29), in the presence of DPM and FM Demeke Mekonnen as well as other notable guests from across Africa.
In his opening remarks, DPM Demeke said that Africa should work for the advancement and benefit of the youth by taking advantage of the favorable opportunities available at the continental level.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Demeke briefed the Ethiopian government’s wide-range efforts underway by engaging the youth in various voluntary services.
He also asserted that the forum hosted by Ethiopia this time is an ideal platform to create connections by the youth leaders and to build partnerships. The Deputy Chairperson (DCP) of the African Union Commission, H.E. Dr. Monique Nsanzabaganwa, on her part, remarked Africa should use the potential of the youth to build hope and development for the continent.
She emphasized the importance of utilizing young people’s potential to advance global and continental change.
Head of the Ethiopian Youth League, Asfaw Tekele, also said that the same resilience of the Pan-African movement shall be repeated currently to development and growth of the continent.
The summit continue discussions on ways of promoting pan-African vision, strengthen integration among African youth tomorrow.
