As part of the implementation of the Pretoria Peace Agreement of November 2, 2022, the Ethiopian Government has established a “transitional justice process aimed at accountability, ascertaining the truth, redress for victims, reconciliation, and healing, consistent with the Constitution of FDRE and the African Union Transitional Justice Policy Framework.” The announcement made by the US State Department on 21 March 2023 regarding “determination” of accountability for human rights abuses in northern Ethiopia is notable for its omissions and selective acknowledgement of alleged wrongdoing. Selective filtration of facts for “determination of Atrocities” detracts from the credibility of accountability and will not serve to invigorate the transitional justice process underway. In his one day long trip to Ethiopia, Secretary Blinken met and held productive conversations with H.E PM Abiy Ahmed Ali, FM and DPM H.E Demeke Mekonnen Hassen, and other high ranking officials and rights groups.

US Secretary of State, today announced more than $331 million in new humanitarian assistance for Ethiopia for the year 2023 through the Department of State and the U.S. Agency for International Development.
According to a statement by State Department, the funding will provide life-saving support to those displaced and affected by conflict, drought, and food insecurity in Ethiopia.

In his official working visit to Ethiopia, Mr. Blinken held candid discussions with H.E PM Abiy Ahmed and FM & DPM H.E Demeke Mekonnen.
His visit to Ethiopia, the announced humanitarian support and the ongoing constructive engagements testify the keen interest of the two countries to boost their longstanding cooperation.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali received at the Office of the Prime Minister earlier today US Secretary of State, Anthony J. Blinken who is in Ethiopia for a working visit. Their discussions focused on various domestic, regional and bilateral issues of mutual concern, with a commitment for enhancing the partnership between #Ethiopia and the #US. Ethiopia’s evident progress on the peace agreement was also acknowledged. While the economy, development endeavours, particularly agriculture, and regional stability were also addressed. #PMOEthiopia

The US Secretary of State H.E Antony Blinken has arrived in Addis Ababa with his Delegation. H.E. Ambassador Mesganu Arga; State Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, H.E Ambassador Seleshi Bekele; Ethiopia’s Ambassador to the United States and other high ranking government officials accorded warm welcome to Mr. Blinken upon his arrival at Bole International Airport.

Mr. Blinken is expected to meet with H.E Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.), Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister H.E Demeke Mekonnen and other top government officials to discuss bilateral, regional and multilateral issues of common interest.

For several decades, Ethiopia and the U.S. have been closely working on multifaceted areas of trade, peace and security, health, education, agriculture, humanitarian assistance and other sectors.

The Secretary’s visit to Ethiopia will help to revitalize and strengthen the longstanding cooperation of the two countries to the highest level it deserves.

Secretary Blinken is also scheduled to meet Chairperson of the AU Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat.

Ethiopia and United States of America have 120 years of official diplomatic relationship.

Diplomats and Staff at the Embassy of Ethiopia in Washington D.C celebrate the annual International Women’s Day under the Theme of “I’m My Sister’s Keeper”. H.E Ambassador Zelalem Birhan, Deputy Head of Mission, on the occasion lauded the extraordinary contribution of women to the transformation of Ethiopia in multifaceted fronts, including in the diplomatic fora.

He also stressed the need to promote women empowerment at all levels to accelerate inclusive implementation of national agendas. A discussion paper was presented focusing on the role of celebrating ’Women’s Day’ and the challenges women staff facing specially in the foreign service assignments.

የሁለቱን አገሮች የንግድ እና የቢዝነስ ትብብር በሚፈለገው ደረጃ ማሳደግ እንደሚገባም ተናግረዋል።ካዛኪስታን እ.ኤ.አ በ2017/2018 በተባበሩት መንግሥታት የፀጥታው ምክር ቤት የተለዋጭ ቋሚ ኮሚቴ አባል በነበረችበት ወቅት ከኢትዮጵያ ጋር በቅርበት ስትሠራ እንደነበርም አስታውሰዋል። በተመሳሳይ አቶ ደመቀ ከሰርቢያ ምክትል የውጭ ጉዳይ ሚኒስትር አይቨክ ዳሴክ ጋር ውይይት አድርገዋል።በውይይታቸውም በሁለቱ አገሮች መካከል ያለውን ጠንካራ ታሪካዊ ግንኘነት ማሳደግ በሚቻልባቸው ጉዳዮች ላይ መምከራቸውን ኢዜአ ዘግቧል። ካዛኪስታን እና ሰርቢያ የገለልተኛ አገራት ንቅናቄ አባል ሲሆኑ ከኢትዮጵያ ጋር በዓለም አቀፍ መድረኮች፣ በባለብዙ ወገን ዲፕሎማሲ በትብብር ይሠራሉ።
