Progress on Delivery of Essential Medicines and Supplies to Tigray region


The Ethiopian government, together with international organizations, has resumed the humanitarian aid that has been interrupted due to the resumption of the conflict in August.
The Ministry of Health together with the National Disaster Risk Management Commission managed to deliver the first round of life-saving drugs and medical supplies worth 6,433,408.47 birr from Ethiopian Pharmaceutical Supply Service to Shire branch, two weeks ago. Second round of medicines and supplies estimated at 1,080,429.28 Birr were also delivered. The medicines and supplies are being distributed to Shire Hospital and nine health centers which are staring to provide health services to the community. In collaboration with the National Disaster Risk Management Commission, third round of additional medicines and supplies worth 1,713,410.35 Birr are on the way to Shire.
On the other hand, this week, two trucks containing essential medical supplies arrived in Mekelle with a load of 33.9 metric tons of basic medical supplies, emergency medicines and surgical instruments through the International Committee of the Red Cross. Other international organizations and MOH have also prepared to send more shipments.
Health professionals from various hospitals have also been sent to support the restarting of services at health facilities which will continue to be strengthened.

Congratulations to Honorable Solomon Areda Waktolla

Congratulations to Honorable Solomon Areda Waktolla, Deputy Chief Justice of the Federal Supreme Court of Ethiopia who has been appointed as a half-time judge of the United Nations Dispute Tribunal for the term 2023-2030 by the United Nations General Assembly’s 34th plenary meeting at the elections held on the 15th of November 2022 in New York. The United Nations Dispute Tribunal (UNDT) is the court of first instance in the internal justice system of the United Nations and is composed of three full-time Judges and six half-time Judges all of whom have a seven-year term. Deputy Chief Justice Waktolla is an accomplished judge and jurist with over twenty five (25) years of legal and judicial work experience both at national and international levels.

“አሁን ወደ ራሳችን የምንመለስበት፣ ጉዳታችንን የምንጠግንበት፣ አንዳችን ላንዳችን እንቅፋት ሳንሆን አለኝታ፣ ፈጥኖ ደራሽ፣ አጽናኝ፣ እና አስታዋሽ የምንሆንበት ወቅት ነው” ሲሉም ገልጸዋል።

እንደ ዲሲ ግብረሃይል ሁሉ ሌሎች አደረጃጀቶች እና መላው የዳያስፖራ ወገናችን የተጎዱትን በማጽናናት፣ በማስታረቅ፣ ለተራቡት በመድረስ፣ እውነተኛ እርቅ እና ዘላቂ መተማመን እንዲጸና ከምንጊዜውም በላይ በርትቶ መስራት እንደሚገባ ተናግረዋል።
ዝግጅቱን ያስተባበሩት የዲሲ የሰላም እና አንድነት ግብረ-ኃይል አባላት እና ተሳታፊዎችም የሚያደርጉትን ድጋፍ እንዲሚቀጥሉ እና በዳያስፖራው ዘንድም የበለጠ አንድነት እና ቅርርብ ተፈጥሮ ለአገር ገንቢ ሚና እንዲጫዎት የጀመሩትን ስራ እንደሚያሰፉ ገልጸዋል።
በእለቱም ከ80 ሺህ ዶላር በላይ ለማሰባሰብ ተችሏል። ይህን እንዲሳካ ለለገሱና ላስተባበሩ ሁሉ አምባሳደር ስለሺ በቀለ ምስጋና አቅርበዋል።

Intensive training on the dimensions of new Ethiopian diplomacy kicks off today

A group of diplomats from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia are gathered in the Sululta-based African Leadership Excellence Academy for a three-week training that aims to define the directions, dimensions, and domains of Ethiopian diplomacy.
The training officially kicked off today in the presence of the State Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ambassador Birtukan Ayano, and the Chief and Deputy Chief of the Leadership Academy, Dr. Meheret Debebe and Mrs. Hiwot Alemayehu respectively, along with some 65 diplomats.
In delivering a keynote speech, Ambassador Birtukan Ayano said the training was designed to update the knowledge and skills of diplomats in line with the new global-level realities in the economic, social, geopolitical, and digital arenas.

It’s the first round of training provided to diplomats in the 2015 E.C. fiscal year Ambassador Birtukan said adding that the sessions are planned to engage diplomats in new ways of thinking that fit the requirements of the day.
According to Ambassador Birtukan, Ethiopians expect to witness a new day in Ethiopia’s diplomacy, reiterating the importance of reflection on the highs and lows of Ethiopian diplomacy that Ethiopia has passed through since the beginning of the reforms that the government has been undertaking for the last four years.
The Chiefs of the Leadership Academy also gave a birds-eye view of the training session, covering some of the contents and accompanying procedures of the upcoming sessions.
The morning session of the first day of the training was covered by Dr. Meheret Debebe, who spoke in detail about various dimensions of thinking under the banner of “The Thinking Diplomat.”

Ethiopian Government briefs International Community In Addis about Peace Deal with TPLF

The International Community based in Addis Ababa was briefed today (November 5) about the agreement signed between the Government of Ethiopia and the TPLF in South Africa.
The briefing was held to give further clarification and updates regarding the process during the agreement, the contents of the agreement, the next steps in the implementation of the deal, expectations from friends and partners, as well as an expression of gratitude for all who contributed to the realization of the agreement.

Ambassador Redwan Hussien, National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister, Dr. Gedion Timotiwos, Minister of Justice, delivered the briefing and addressed the questions raised by participants.
Ambassador Redwan Hussien updated the international community on the steps being taken for implementation of the agreement, which include an exchange of phone calls and an expected in-person meeting between the commander of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces and the military leader of the TPLF in relation to disarmament.
Attendees, ambassadors, and heads of international organizations, based in Addis Ababa applauded the agreement between the Federal Government of Ethiopia and the TPLF to bring about peace and stability in the northern part of Ethiopia and expressed firm support for its implementation.
Participants also expressed support for the efforts underway regarding the reconstruction of infrastructure and basic services and stated their further commitment and solidarity regarding efforts to rebuild conflict affected areas.

DPM and FM Demeke Mekonnen confers with the Foreign Minister of #Türkiye in Abu Dhabi

The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia, Mr. Demeke Mekonnen, held a discussion with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye, H.E. Mr. Mevlut Cavusoglu, on the bilateral issues between the two countries in Abu Dhabi.
Mr. Demeke, who is participating in the Sir Bani Yas Forum organized by the United Arab Emirates, explained the current developments in Ethiopia in his discussion with the Turkish Foreign Minister.
He mentioned the peace agreement that was signed between the Ethiopian government and the TPLF in Pretoria last week.
He explained that the government is carrying out many activities to ensure lasting peace.
Mr. Demeke also underscored the activities that are being taken to further strengthen the longstanding friendly relationship between the two nations.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye, Mevlut Cavusoglu, expressed the happiness of the Turkish government that the peace agreement was signed to resolve the conflict in northern Ethiopia through dialogue.
The Minister, emphasizing that the peace of Ethiopia has made a great contribution to the stability of the region, indicated that Turkiye will provide all-round support in the effort to ensure peace in Ethiopia by implementing the peace agreement.
He also assured that the work being done to increase Turkey’s bilateral relations with Ethiopia in all fields will continue.
