Yesterday, H.E. Ambassador Seleshi Bekele held a fruitful discussion with Mr. Nick Lagunowich, Pfizer’s Global President of Emerging Markets. A team of Pfizer’s executives will travel to Ethiopia to discuss the implementation of its ‘Accord for a Healthier World’ that aims to provide medicines and vaccines to 45 lower-income countries, including Ethiopia, on a not-for-profit basis. H.E Adanech Abiebie, Mayor of Addis Ababa, concludes her fruitful working visit in Washington D.C. In her weeklong Washington D.C mission, The Mayor held a series of bilateral discussions, field visits, experience sharing seminars and diaspora engagements. She had a candid bilateral conversation with her Washington D.C. counterpart, Mayor Muriel Bowser, on ways of implementing the Sister-City Agreements signed in 2019. The Mayors agreed to establish a working group aimed at invigorating the gaps and opportunities in terms of implementing the agreement and way forward. H.E Ambassador Seleshi mentioned that the Embassy will continue bridging the offices of the two cities. An experience sharing consultation forum was also held between the cities sectoral offices such as Health, educations, planning, economic development bureaus. In this forum, the respective offices presented their best practices and lessons to be taken.
Washington D.C sectoral offices vowed to provide capacity building trainings to Addis Ababa City experts on several fronts. The Mayor and her Delegation paid several field visits including the capital river front redevelopment projects around Navy yard, D.C Water and recycling projects built by public and private partnerships. In her last day of Washington D.C mission H.E Mayor Adanech Abiebie held a candid discussion with DMV area Ethiopia Diaspora Business Community where 200,000 USD was raised for the “Dine for Generation” project. Mayor Adanech elaborated the conducive investment opportunities in Addis Ababa in the areas of technology, construction, health, hospitality, education and several others. She also lauded Embassy of Ethiopia, Washington, D.C. for facilitating bilateral discussions, field tours in collaboration with Mayor office of D.C and organizing a fruitful diaspora engagements in coordination. Prior to traveling to D.C, Mayor Adanench and her Delegation had a productive engagement with the City of Denver which was showcased by the signing of a Sister City Agreement with Addis Ababa.

The Mayor of Addis Ababa City, Adanaech Abiebie held a fruitful discussion with her Washington D.C. counterpart, Mayor Muriel Bowser. The two mayors exchanged constructive ways of implementing the sister city agreements they have signed in 2019.
“We have agreed that we will work together and exchange experiences on the area of urban planning, revenue collection, transportation, healthcare, water treatment, working with surrounding cities and redeveloping by ensuring the benefit of residents through integrated development projects built by government and private partnerships”, Adanech tweeted following. Addis Ababa City Delegation led by Mayor Adanech made several field visits and experience sharing consultations with respective Washington D.C government offices. During the occasion the Embassy raised 200,000 USD for the “Dine for Generation” project.
In her remarks, H.E Mayor Adanech elaborated the conducive investment opportunities in Addis Ababa in the areas of technology, construction, health, hospitality, education and several others.
She also clarified the City Administration’s commitment to provide efficient services and resolve any obstacles that investors might face to operate their business activity.
They Mayor expressed her gratitude to supporters to the “Dine for Generation” project indicating this initiative’s grand role in transforming Ethiopia’s global image and creating multitude of opportunities.
H.E Ambassador Seleshi Bekele on his part reiterated the growing business and investment windows in Addis Ababa and the rest of the country.
He also lauded Ethiopian Diaspora for the unwavering support of national calls, adding that the projects funded by the ‘Dine for Generation” initiative would augment Ethiopia’s aspiration of becoming Africa’s top tourist destination.
Ambassador Seleshi reaffirmed the Embassy’s readiness in providing valuable information and link the business community with respective government offices in Ethiopia.
Participants of the DMV area diaspora business community expressed their keen interest of investing in Addis Ababa and other parts of the country.
They also vowed their continued support to “Dine for Generation” and other development initiatives.
During the event, a detailed information of Addis Ababa’s Investment opportunities and grand projects was presented by the Mayor’s Strategic Programes Office.
